Machine Girl

Machine Girl is an American digital hardcore duo formed by vocalist and producer Matt Stephenson and drummer Sean Kelly. Their music fuses breakcore, industrial, punk, and electronic music into a chaotic, high-energy sound steeped in cyberpunk and anime aesthetics, with recurring imagery drawn from 1990s Japanese pop culture and horror films.

The duo's early albums, including «WLFGRL» and «GEMINI», built a devoted underground following through relentless, glitch-heavy production and confrontational live performances, with Stephenson often performing in KISS-inspired face paint. Their breakout record, «…Because I'm Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For», pushed the group further into a harder digital hardcore direction and expanded their reach beyond the noise and breakcore underground.

Machine Girl has continued to evolve across releases such as «The Ugly Art» and «U-Void Synthesizer», incorporating elements of drum and bass, industrial rock, and more melodic songwriting while retaining their raw, DIY intensity. The group is frequently cited as a key act in the resurgence of digital hardcore and breakcore in the 2010s and 2020s, influencing a wave of artists blending extreme electronic music with punk energy.
