Little Richard

Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon, Georgia, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist widely regarded as one of the founding architects of rock and roll. His 1955 breakthrough single «Tutti Frutti», co-written with Dorothy LaBostrie, introduced a raw, propulsive energy built on pounding piano, gospel-charged vocal shrieks, and boundary-crossing sexuality that shocked and thrilled audiences on both sides of the color line in mid-1950s America.

Following hits such as «Long Tall Sally», «Rip It Up», «Lucille», and «Good Golly Miss Molly» cemented his influence on the emerging genre, with his frantic piano playing, flamboyant stage persona, and gospel-rooted vocal power directly shaping the sound and showmanship of rock and roll for generations of performers who followed, from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix.
