Justine Skye, born August 24, 1995, in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, New York, is an R&B and pop singer-songwriter who first drew attention through Tumblr before landing a record deal with Atlantic Records as a teenager. Her career took a formative turn when, accompanying her entertainment-lawyer mother to a BMI music panel, she asked to perform and impressed executives with a cover of Sam Sparro's «Black and Gold», leading her to pursue vocal training and songwriting more seriously.

She worked with producers and writers including August Rigo and Eric Hudson on her early material, culminating in the 2013 EP Everyday Living, which paired original songs with a cover of Aaliyah's «I Don't Wanna».
