Joji

Joji, born George Kusunoki Miller in Osaka in 1992 and raised largely in Japan and the United States, is a singer, producer and songwriter now based in the US. Before turning to music he was known online as Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, a comedy persona that built him a massive YouTube following; he retired that character in 2017 to focus fully on his music career. His early releases as Joji appeared on SoundCloud and caught the attention of the 88rising collective, which he was signed to for years before eventually operating independently.

Musically, Joji blends lo-fi bedroom production, trap-influenced R&B and melancholic pop songwriting, with a hushed, breathy vocal delivery that stands in deliberate contrast to his earlier internet-comedy image. Songs like «SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK» and «YEAH RIGHT» established his sound on the album Ballads 1, while «Glimpse of Us» became a global streaming phenomenon and introduced him to a much wider mainstream audience. His work often explores heartbreak, isolation and self-destructive tendencies with sparse, atmospheric arrangements.

Across his catalog, including projects like In Tongues and Nectar, Joji has collaborated with producers and artists connected to the alternative R&B and hip-hop scenes. He remains one of the more unusual crossover success stories in modern pop, moving from viral internet comedy to critically noted, commercially successful music.
