John Legend

John Legend, born John Roger Stephens on December 28, 1978 in Springfield, Ohio, is an American R&B and soul singer, pianist, and songwriter whose smooth, gospel-rooted voice has made him one of the defining balladeers of his generation. Raised in a musical family, he began playing piano as a child and singing in church, later graduating from the University of Pennsylvania before pursuing music full-time. His early break came when Lauryn Hill invited him to play piano on her 1998 song «Everything Is Everything».

He rose to prominence after being signed by Kanye West to G.O.O.D. Music, releasing his debut album Get Lifted in 2004, which blended classic soul with contemporary R&B and hip-hop production.
