Heatwave

Heatwave were a British-based funk and disco group formed in the mid-1970s by American brothers Johnnie and Keith Wilson, notable for assembling an unusually international lineup that included the Czech-born keyboardist and songwriter Rod Temperton. Signed to GTO/Epic, the band became one of the defining acts of the disco era, blending funk grooves, soulful vocals and lush arrangements that stood apart from purely dance-oriented disco of the time.

Their breakthrough came with the 1976 album Too Hot to Handle, which produced the hits «Boogie Nights» and «Always and Forever», the latter becoming a wedding-song standard prized for its romantic ballad arrangement. The follow-up «The Groove Line» further cemented their reputation for infectious, horn-driven funk-pop. Rod Temperton's songwriting talent, honed in the band, later made him one of the most sought-after writers in pop and R&B, penning material for Michael Jackson and George Benson.

Heatwave's career was marked by both success and hardship, including lineup changes and a serious car accident involving Johnnie Wilson, but their catalog remains a touchstone of 1970s soul-disco songwriting, valued for melodic sophistication rather than pure dancefloor function.
