Guy

Guy is an American R&B group formed in Harlem, New York, in 1987, widely credited as one of the architects of the new jack swing sound that defined late-1980s and early-1990s R&B. The group was led by producer Teddy Riley alongside vocalists Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling, with Gatling later replaced by Aaron's brother Damion Hall following the release of their self-titled debut album in 1988.

That debut, powered by Riley's pioneering production, yielded hits such as «Groove Me», «Teddy's Jam», and «I Like», alongside standout album tracks «Piece of My Love» and «Goodbye Love», and it reached number one on the R&B album chart while achieving multi-platinum status. The group also contributed the song «My Fantasy» to Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing soundtrack in 1989. Their second album, The Future (1990), continued their run of success with singles including «Let's Chill», «Do Me Right» featuring Heavy D, and «Wanna Get Wit U».

Guy disbanded after internal management disputes but reunited for the album Guy III in 2000, and again for reunion performances such as the New Jack Reunion Tour in 2006 and the BET Awards in 2009. Teddy Riley's production work with Guy established a template that influenced a generation of R&B and hip-hop soul acts, cementing the group's legacy as new jack swing pioneers.
