Fred Hammond

Fred Hammond (born December 27, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas) is an American gospel singer, bass guitarist, and producer widely regarded as one of the genre's most influential figures. He first gained prominence as lead vocalist and bassist for the Grammy-nominated group Commissioned before launching a hugely successful solo and choir-led career, blending traditional gospel with R&B, funk, and smooth soul textures.

Hammond became a defining voice of contemporary gospel through his work with Radical for Christ and albums that produced enduring congregational favorites like «This Is the Day» and «This Is the Day (We Give You Glory)»-style praise anthems, «Are You Listening», and other staples of modern church worship. His sound helped modernize gospel for a generation, incorporating smooth grooves and rich vocal arrangements while keeping the music rooted in worship.
