Eric Burdon

Eric Burdon is an English singer born in 1941 in Newcastle upon Tyne, best known as the powerful, gravelly-voiced frontman of The Animals during the British Invasion of the mid-1960s. He later moved to the United States and fronted the funk-rock band War, blending blues shouting with psychedelic and soul influences in a way few British singers of his generation attempted.

With The Animals he delivered defining hits such as «House of the Rising Sun» and «Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood», establishing himself as one of rock’s most distinctive blues-influenced vocalists. His work with War in the early 1970s, including «Spill the Wine», pushed his sound toward funk, jazz and Latin grooves, showing a restless willingness to cross genre lines.

Burdon’s catalog also includes covers and live reinterpretations of soul, blues and rock standards, reflecting his roots in American R&B. He has long been cited as an influence on rock vocalists for his raw delivery and stage intensity, and his career spans blues-rock, psychedelia and funk across more than five decades.
