Earth, Wind & Fire

Earth, Wind & Fire is an American band formed in Chicago in the early 1970s under the leadership of Maurice White, a former session drummer for Chess Records. The group built its sound around a fusion of funk, soul, jazz, disco, and pop, layering horn arrangements, vocal harmonies led by White and Philip Bailey, and Afrocentric and spiritual imagery drawn from Kemetic and cosmological themes — reflected in the band's very name, tied to elements of astrology.

Through the mid-to-late 1970s the group became one of the most commercially and critically successful acts in American popular music, crossing over between R&B and pop audiences at a time when such crossover was rare. Songs like «September», «Boogie Wonderland», «Fantasy», and «After the Love Has Gone» became staples of the era, blending intricate musicianship with irresistible dance grooves and lush ballads.

Beyond the hits, Earth, Wind & Fire is remembered for its elaborate live shows, incorporating pyrotechnics and illusions by Doug Henning, and for its lasting influence on funk, disco, and R&B artists that followed.
