About the artist
E-40, born Earl Stevens in 1967, is a rapper, entrepreneur, and one of the founding figures of Bay Area hip-hop, hailing from Vallejo, California. Known as «The Ambassador of the Bay», he began his career in the 1980s with family group The Click before launching a prolific solo career built on his own independent label, Sick Wid It Records — a template for independent hip-hop entrepreneurship long before it became common practice.
E-40's style is instantly recognizable for its rapid-fire delivery, inventive wordplay, and a self-coined slang vocabulary that has permeated hip-hop far beyond the Bay Area, influencing generations of rappers nationwide. Hits like «Tell Me When to Go», «Choices (Yup)» and «Function» helped popularize hyphy culture and turntable-ready Bay Area sounds to mainstream audiences.
Over four decades in the game, E-40 has remained remarkably consistent and prolific, releasing album after album while expanding into ventures like his own wine label. His longevity and continued relevance across changing eras of rap have made him a revered elder statesman of West Coast hip-hop.
