E-40, nascido Earl Stevens em 1967, é rapper, empresário e uma das figuras fundadoras do hip-hop da Bay Area, natural de Vallejo, Califórnia. Conhecido como «O Embaixador da Bay», iniciou a carreira nos anos 1980 no grupo familiar The Click, antes de construir uma prolífica carreira solo através de seu próprio selo independente, a Sick Wid It Records — um modelo de empreendedorismo independente no hip-hop muito antes de essa prática se tornar comum.
O estilo de E-40 é instantaneamente reconhecível por sua entrega veloz, jogos de palavras criativos e um vocabulário de gírias próprias que se espalhou pelo hip-hop muito além da Bay Area, influenciando gerações de rappers por todo o país. Sucessos como «Tell Me When to Go», «Choices (Yup)» e «Function» ajudaram a popularizar a cultura hyphy e o som da Bay Area junto ao público mainstream.
Com mais de quatro décadas de carreira, E-40 permanece notavelmente consistente e prolífico, lançando álbum após álbum enquanto expande empreendimentos como sua própria linha de vinhos.
