Dianne Reeves

Dianne Reeves is an American jazz vocalist widely regarded as one of the leading jazz singers of her generation. In 1987 she became the first artist signed to the relaunched Blue Note Records, releasing a self-titled debut produced by her cousin, keyboardist and producer George Duke, beginning a long collaborative relationship that shaped much of her early sound. She comes from a musically gifted family; her uncle, bassist Charles Burrell, was the first African-American musician to hold a full-time symphony orchestra contract in the United States, joining the Denver Symphony in 1949.

Reeves's style blends straight-ahead jazz vocal tradition with R&B, gospel, and Brazilian and African influences, giving her recordings a warm, wide-ranging emotional palette rather than a narrowly traditionalist approach. She has won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album five times, including for three consecutive album releases, a feat unmatched by any other artist in any Grammy category.

Her profile extended beyond recordings into film: she appeared on screen and provided the soundtrack vocals for George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck, work that earned her a fourth Grammy. Across a long recording career she has interpreted standards alongside original material, cementing her reputation as both a technically masterful and emotionally direct vocalist within contemporary jazz.
