Daft Punk

Daft Punk were a French electronic music duo formed in Paris in 1993 by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Emerging from the city house scene alongside acts like Justice and Cassius, they quickly became one of the most influential electronic acts of their generation, fusing house, funk, disco and techno into a sound instantly recognizable through heavy vocoder and talk-box use. Their public image became inseparable from the robot personas and metallic helmets the duo adopted around 2001, appearing in costume for nearly every performance and photograph while keeping their private lives largely hidden.

Across four studio albums — Homework, Discovery, Human After All and Random Access Memories — they moved from raw club-ready house to lush, guitar-and-orchestra disco revivalism, always retaining a robotic, machine-made edge. Random Access Memories, built with live musicians and collaborators including Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and Giorgio Moroder, produced the global hit «Get Lucky» and won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. The duo also scored Tron: Legacy and worked as producers for artists such as Kanye West and The Weeknd, extending their reach well beyond dance music.

On 22 February 2021 Daft Punk announced their split with a short film titled Epilogue, closing a 28-year career that reshaped how electronic music was performed, marketed and heard by mainstream audiences.
