Caribou

Caribou is the recording name of Canadian musician Dan Snaith, a producer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Ontario who holds a PhD in mathematics — a background that shows in the meticulous, layered construction of his records. Under the Caribou name (after earlier recording as Manitoba), he has moved fluidly across psychedelic pop, krautrock-inflected rhythm, house and techno-adjacent electronic music, and warm, melodic songwriting, never settling permanently into one genre from album to album. He also records dancefloor-focused material as Daphni, a separate but closely related outlet for his more club-oriented productions.

Snaith's Caribou albums are known for combining dense, hand-built production — samples, live drumming, analog synths — with genuinely emotive songwriting, often exploring themes of love, family and time passing. Tracks like «Odessa», «Can't Do Without You» and «Home» show his knack for pairing hypnotic, dance-adjacent grooves with pop hooks, while his live shows translate that studio detail into an energetic full-band performance.
