Burial

Burial is the alias of a London-based producer who emerged in the mid-2000s as one of the defining voices of the UK dubstep and post-dubstep underground. Working largely anonymously for years before revealing himself as William Bevan, he built a reputation on hauntological, rain-soaked productions built from crackling vinyl textures, chopped R&B vocal samples, and skeletal 2-step rhythms that evoke late-night bus rides and empty London streets.

His 2007 album «Untrue» became a landmark record, earning a Mercury Prize nomination and widely credited with pushing dubstep's emotional palette beyond the dancefloor into something closer to ambient soul. Tracks like «Archangel» and «Near Dark» showcased his signature blend of melancholy and warmth, pairing pitched-up vocal fragments with dubbed-out bass and field-recording ambience.

In the years since, Burial has continued releasing sprawling singles and EPs — including «Rival Dealer», «Untrue»-era leftovers, and collaborations with artists like Four Tet and Thom Yorke — that further blurred the line between dance music and abstract composition. His refusal to tour or reveal his identity for most of his career only deepened his mystique, and his influence can be heard across ambient, electronic, and experimental pop production ever since.
