About the artist

Bobby Womack (March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer whose career bridged soul, R&B, gospel and rock. He first rose to prominence with his brothers in The Valentinos, penning songs including «Looking for a Love» and «It's All Over Now», the latter famously covered by The Rolling Stones as their first UK number one.

As a solo artist Womack built a raw, gritty vocal style rooted in gospel intensity, scoring 14 Billboard Hot 100 hits between 1969 and 1984 including «That's the Way I Feel About Cha» and «Harry Hippie». His work also extended to film soundtracks, notably «Across 110th Street», which became a touchstone of 1970s soul cinema.

Beyond his solo catalog, Womack was a prolific session guitarist and producer who worked closely with Sam Cooke and Sly and the Family Stone, among others, and his songwriting and vocal phrasing left a lasting influence on soul and R&B artists that followed.
