Blu Cantrell

Blu Cantrell, born Tiffany Cobb in Providence, Rhode Island, is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter who broke through in the early 2000s with a bold, sassy vocal style rooted in classic soul but delivered with contemporary pop-R&B production. Her debut single «Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)», built around a defiant tale of a scorned woman getting revenge by maxing out her cheating partner's credit cards, became an international hit, topping urban and pop charts and earning Cantrell two Grammy nominations. The song's brash confidence and instantly quotable hook made it a defining anthem of early-2000s R&B.

Her debut album So Blu established her as part of a wave of R&B women singing frankly about relationships and empowerment, alongside acts like Ashanti and Mary J. Blige. Cantrell's follow-up, Bittersweet, produced her other signature hit, «Breathe», a collaboration with Jamaican dancehall star Sean Paul that fused R&B songcraft with reggae rhythm, reflecting the growing crossover between American R&B and Caribbean dancehall in that era.
