About the artist
Black Atlass is the stage name of Alexander Fleming, a singer, songwriter and producer from Montreal, Canada, who blends alternative R&B with elements of hip-hop, pop and electronic music. His sound favors moody, elegant piano and vocal melodies layered over gritty, large-sounding synths and trap-influenced drum programming, placing him alongside a wave of genre-blurring R&B artists who emerged in the early 2010s.
He began releasing music independently, starting with the single «Paris» and the self-released EP The Black Atlass in 2012. After signing to Fool's Gold Records, he issued the EP Young Bloods in 2014, followed by another independent EP, Jade, in 2015. His debut album, Haunted Paradise, arrived in 2016, pulling together earlier tracks such as «Blonde» and «Summer Time» alongside new material.
Black Atlass gained wider visibility when «Sacrifice», featuring Jessie Reyez, appeared on the soundtrack to Fifty Shades Freed, followed by singles like «My Life» and «Pain & Pleasure» that reinforced his sultry, shadowy signature style.
