Atlantic Starr

Atlantic Starr is an American R&B and soul band formed in White Plains, New York, in the mid-1970s by the Lewis brothers. The group built its reputation through the late 1970s and 1980s with a smooth, harmony-driven sound that blended funk grooves with lush ballads, eventually becoming one of the defining acts of the quiet storm radio format.

The band reached its commercial peak with the ballad «Always», a wedding-song staple that topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, alongside other well-remembered singles like «Secret Lovers», «Send for Me» and «Masterpiece». Their sound combined tight vocal harmonies, warm horn and string arrangements, and a mix of uptempo funk numbers with tender love songs.

Over a career spanning several decades and multiple lineup changes, Atlantic Starr remained a touring and recording act into the 21st century, with «Always» in particular enduring as a genre-defining slow jam still played at weddings and on R&B radio today.
