Amir Obè

Amir Obé is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer born August 26, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He began releasing music independently under the name Phreshy Duzit before signing to Atlantic Records, through which he released his debut EP Brave New World. Dissatisfied with the deal, he left the label and continued independently under his own imprint, Neighborhood PHCK$, releasing the mixtape The New Religion.

Adopting the name Amir Obé around the release of his mixtape Detrooklyn, he built a reputation blending rap, R&B, and pop into a moody, melodic style. A pivotal connection came through PARTYNEXTDOOR, to whom Obé sent beats; the two went on to collaborate on tracks including «I'm Good» and «Truth For You», and Obé co-produced «Star67». This work helped draw the attention of Drake's manager Oliver El-Khatib around 2014.

Obé continued developing his sound through the EPs Happening in the Grey Area (2015) and Won't Find Love in the Hills (2016), further refining the atmospheric, genre-blurring approach heard in songs like «CIGARETTES», «WISH YOU WELL», and «NATURALLY». In December 2016 he signed to Def Jam Recordings, positioning him for a wider release of his debut album.
