6LACK, born Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr. on June 24, 1992, is an Atlanta-based singer and rapper whose moody, melodic style helped define a wave of alternative R&B in the late 2010s. Raised in East Atlanta's Zone 6 neighborhood after moving there as a child, he spent years navigating an early, restrictive record deal before signing with LVRN (LoveRenaissance), which allowed his career to properly take off.

His breakthrough came with «PRBLMS», a stark, introspective single that led into his 2016 debut album FREE 6LACK, praised for its blend of hushed vocals, trap-influenced production, and raw emotional honesty. He followed it with East Atlanta Love Letter in 2018, further cementing his reputation as one of R&B's more understated, songwriting-focused voices.

6LACK's music sits at the intersection of R&B, hip-hop, and trap, often built around confessional lyrics about relationships and personal struggle. After a lengthy gap, he returned with the album Since I Have a Lover, continuing his focus on intimate, atmospheric songwriting rather than chasing radio trends.
