Willie Nelson (nascido em 29 de abril de 1933) é um cantor, compositor e violonista americano criado pelos avós em Abbott, Texas, durante a Grande Depressão. Após tentativas iniciais com um estilo de crooner mais suave, próximo do pop, ele virou decisivamente para a música country no fim dos anos 1960, tornando-se, ao lado de Waylon Jennings, um dos criadores do movimento outlaw country, que rejeitava a produção polida de Nashville em favor de um som mais cru e pessoal.
Seus álbuns marcantes Shotgun Willie, Red Headed Stranger e Stardust redefiniram o que um disco de country podia ser, misturando gospel, jazz e standards pop com seu timbre característico de violão de cordas de nylon e fraseado atrás do tempo. Canções como «On the Road Again», «Always on My Mind» e «Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain» tornaram-se sucessos definidores do gênero, enquanto sua autoria de «Crazy» (gravada por Patsy Cline) consolidou sua reputação como um dos grandes compositores do country. Foi também membro fundador do supergrupo The Highwaymen ao lado de Jennings, Johnny Cash e Kris Kristofferson, além de gravar álbuns em dupla aclamados com artistas de Merle Haggard a Wynton Marsalis.
