Sobre o artista
O New Order surgiu em Manchester em 1980 a partir dos membros sobreviventes do Joy Division — Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook e Stephen Morris — após a morte do vocalista Ian Curtis. Com a chegada da tecladista Gillian Gilbert, a banda se afastou da escuridão pós-punk do Joy Division em direção a um híbrido de rock guitarrístico com a emergente música dance e eletrônica, tornando-se um dos grupos definidores dessa ponte nos anos 1980.
O som da banda combinava os vocais melódicos e frequentemente melancólicos de Sumner com as linhas de baixo altas e protagonistas de Hook, além de sintetizadores e caixas de ritmo cada vez mais presentes. O single «Blue Monday», de 1983, tornou-se o maxi-single mais vendido da história das paradas britânicas e permanece um marco na fusão entre sensibilidade pós-punk e produção eletrônica de clube, com grande influência sobre o synth-pop e o techno.
Álbuns como «Movement», «Power, Corruption & Lies», «Low-Life», «Brotherhood» e «Technique» registram essa evolução, com singles como «Bizarre Love Triangle», «True Faith», «Temptation» e «Ceremony» tornando-se clássicos do gênero. Sob o nome England New Order, a banda gravou o hino da seleção inglesa para a Copa do Mundo de 1990, «World in Motion». Peter Hook deixou o grupo em 2007, substituído por Tom Chapman no baixo, mas a fusão de rock e dance do New Order continua sendo referência.
