John Towner Williams é um compositor e maestro norte-americano, nascido em 8 de fevereiro de 1932 no Queens, Nova York. É amplamente considerado um dos compositores de trilhas sonoras mais influentes da história, tendo composto para mais de cem filmes ao longo de uma carreira extensa. Sua longa colaboração com o diretor Steven Spielberg resultou em muitas de suas obras mais celebradas, sendo também muito conhecido por suas trilhas para a saga «Star Wars», a série «Indiana Jones» e os filmes de Harry Potter.
A música de Williams é marcada por temas orquestrais grandiosos, leitmotifs memoráveis e domínio de toda a paleta sinfônica, inspirando-se nas tradições orquestrais do romantismo tardio e do início do século XX.
