John Towner Williams es un compositor y director de orquesta estadounidense, nacido el 8 de febrero de 1932 en Queens, Nueva York. Está considerado uno de los compositores cinematográficos más influyentes de la historia, habiendo compuesto la banda sonora de más de un centenar de películas a lo largo de una extensa carrera. Su larga colaboración con el director Steven Spielberg dio lugar a muchas de sus obras más célebres, y también es muy conocido por sus partituras para la saga «Star Wars», la serie «Indiana Jones» y las películas de Harry Potter.
La música de Williams se caracteriza por temas orquestales grandiosos, leitmotifs memorables y un dominio de toda la paleta sinfónica, inspirándose en las tradiciones orquestales del romanticismo tardío y principios del siglo XX.
