Sobre o artista
Iron Maiden é uma banda inglesa de heavy metal formada em 1975 em Leyton, leste de Londres, pelo baixista e principal compositor Steve Harris, o único integrante presente em todas as gravações ao lado do guitarrista de longa data Dave Murray. Surgida do circuito de clubes do final dos anos 1970, a banda tornou-se o nome de destaque da Nova Onda do Heavy Metal Britânico. A demo de 1979, «The Soundhouse Tapes», rendeu um contrato com a EMI, e a chegada do vocalista Bruce Dickinson no terceiro álbum impulsionou a banda ao estrelato internacional.
O som do Iron Maiden se apoia em harmonias de guitarras duplas e triplas, linhas de baixo galopantes conduzidas por Harris e o vocal operístico e amplo de Dickinson. Nas letras, predominam temas históricos, literários e cinematográficos, alternando faixas rápidas de abertura como «Aces High» com encerramentos longos e atmosféricos como «Hallowed Be Thy Name» e «Fear of the Dark». Músicas como «The Number of the Beast», «The Trooper» e «Run to the Hills» tornaram-se clássicos do gênero.
A identidade visual da banda é indissociável de Eddie, o mascote zumbi criado pelo artista Derek Riggs, presente em quase todas as capas de álbuns e nos shows ao vivo. Décadas depois, o Iron Maiden continua sendo uma das bandas mais influentes e duradouras do heavy metal.
