Sobre el artista
Iron Maiden es una banda inglesa de heavy metal formada en 1975 en Leyton, este de Londres, por el bajista y compositor principal Steve Harris, el único miembro presente en todas sus grabaciones junto al guitarrista Dave Murray. Surgida del circuito de clubes de finales de los años setenta, la banda se convirtió en el estandarte de la Nueva Ola del Heavy Metal Británico. Su demo de 1979, «The Soundhouse Tapes», les valió un contrato con EMI, y la llegada del cantante Bruce Dickinson en su tercer álbum impulsó su proyección internacional.
El sonido de Iron Maiden se apoya en armonías de guitarra dobles y triples, líneas de bajo galopantes lideradas por Harris y la voz operística de Dickinson. Sus letras suelen abordar temas históricos, literarios y cinematográficos, alternando temas rápidos que abren discos, como «Aces High», con cierres extensos y atmosféricos como «Hallowed Be Thy Name» y «Fear of the Dark». Canciones como «The Number of the Beast», «The Trooper» y «Run to the Hills» se convirtieron en himnos del género.
La identidad visual de la banda es inseparable de Eddie, la mascota zombi creada por el artista Derek Riggs, presente en casi todas las portadas y en sus espectáculos en vivo. Décadas después, Iron Maiden sigue siendo una de las bandas más influyentes y longevas del heavy metal.
