Engelbert Humperdinck é o nome artístico de Arnold George Dorsey, cantor pop inglês nascido em 1936 em Madras, Índia britânica, e criado em Leicester após a mudança da família para a Inglaterra. Inicialmente se apresentava como Gerry Dorsey, até que seu empresário Gordon Mills sugeriu adotar o nome do célebre compositor romântico alemão, autor da ópera Hansel e Gretel — mudança que impulsionou sua carreira em meados dos anos 1960. Sua voz de barítono e seu estilo pop orquestral e romântico o tornaram um dos grandes crooners da época, próximo em popularidade a Tom Jones, com quem compartilhou empresário e uma rivalidade amistosa.
Seu repertório se apoiava em baladas românticas que misturavam pop, easy listening e adult contemporary, com influências latinas e continentais, como em «Quando Quando Quando» e «Spanish Eyes». Sucessos como «Release Me», «The Last Waltz» e «A Man Without Love» dominaram as paradas europeias por décadas e o consolidaram como figura central do pop romântico, com fãs fiéis do Reino Unido às Filipinas.
