DJ Drama, nascido Tyree Cinque Simmons em 22 de abril de 1978 na Filadélfia, é uma das figuras mais influentes na cultura das mixtapes. Ganhou destaque nos anos 2000 com sua série de mixtapes «Gangsta Grillz», um formato que combinava comentários do DJ com faixas exclusivas e se tornou trampolim para diversos artistas do rap sulista. Como membro fundador do Aphilliates Music Group ao lado de DJ Don Cannon e DJ Sense, ajudou a definir o som e a estratégia de lançamento de toda uma era do hip-hop.
Drama construiu relações de trabalho próximas com artistas como T.I., Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Jim Jones, Saigon e Little Brother, apresentando mixtapes que muitas vezes se tornavam momentos decisivos nas carreiras desses rappers. Em 2007, ele e DJ Cannon foram presos sob acusações RICO ligadas à distribuição de mixtapes, um caso que se tornou emblemático nos debates sobre a legalidade dessa prática na indústria. Ele também continuou lançando álbuns próprios, incluindo Quality Street Music, que traz a faixa «We In This Bitch», conceito que segundo ele surgiu enquanto apresentava a mixtape Trap or Die de Young Jeezy.
