Sobre el artista
The Mountain Goats es un proyecto de folk-rock indie fundado y liderado por el cantautor John Darnielle, originario de Claremont, California, y luego radicado en Durham, Carolina del Norte. Durante buena parte de su carrera temprana, la banda fue esencialmente un vehículo solista para Darnielle, conocido por grabar en una grabadora Panasonic barata y por una producción lo-fi extraordinariamente prolífica y con letras densas.
Con el tiempo el grupo se convirtió en una banda completa, con el bajista Peter Hughes, el batería Jon Wurster y el multiinstrumentista Matt Douglas formando la alineación estable desde el álbum Beat the Champ de 2015. Darnielle también ha colaborado con figuras del indie rock como Franklin Bruno y John Vanderslice. El sonido de la banda pasó de grabaciones caseras crudas a una producción de estudio más completa y pulida, pero las letras literarias y centradas en personajes de Darnielle se han mantenido constantes.
Canciones como «No Children», «This Year» y «Up the Wolves» son de las más conocidas, admiradas por combinar melodías pegadizas con una narrativa implacable, a menudo oscuramente cómica, sobre adicción, resiliencia y vida en pueblos pequeños.
