About the artist
Young Money Entertainment (also known by the abbreviation YMCMB, reflecting its ties to parent label Cash Money Records) is a hip-hop label and collective founded by New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne. Conceived as a vehicle for Lil Wayne's own protégés, it grew from a loose crew of guest features and mixtape collaborators into one of the most commercially successful hip-hop imprints of the late 2000s and early 2010s, distributed through Republic Records.
The label's signature sound blended Southern hip-hop swagger with radio-ready pop-rap hooks, showcased on collective releases such as the compilation albums that brought together its roster for posse cuts and singles. Its rise to mainstream prominence coincided with the emergence of Nicki Minaj as one of the era's defining female rap stars and with a run of hit singles built around Lil Wayne's own ubiquity as a guest artist.
Beyond Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, the Young Money roster has included Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine, Cory Gunz, Shanell, Reginae Carter, Lil Twist, Euro and others, while the label also formerly managed or was closely associated with artists like Drake and Tyga before their departures. The crew's group tracks and posse cuts remain touchstones of the period's collaborative hip-hop culture.
