Wax, born Michael Jones, is an American rapper, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who first built his audience on YouTube in the late 2000s, uploading hundreds of homemade rap and singing videos. That grassroots visibility led to a deal with Def Jam Recordings in 2011, an unusually direct path from internet clip-maker to major-label artist. His music blends rap with rock, pop, and R and B textures, often filtered through a lo-fi, DIY aesthetic that reflects his roots as a self-produced YouTube performer rather than a studio-groomed act.
