TWENTY88 is a hip-hop and R&B duo formed by Jhené Aiko and Big Sean, two established solo artists who joined forces for a joint project announced via Def Jam in March 2016. The duo's name references the fact that both artists were born in 1988, turning 28 the year the project launched — a personal, almost autobiographical framing that carried through into the project's intimate, relationship-focused songwriting.

Their self-titled debut album, released April 1, 2016, was first made available as a TIDAL exclusive before a wider release, and was accompanied by a short film titled «Out of Love» that expanded on the album's narrative of romantic entanglement.
