Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson in Brampton, Ontario, is a Canadian rapper and singer who moved to Miami as a child. He built his early buzz through a string of mixtapes before breaking into the mainstream with the melodic single «LUV» and his debut album I Told You. His sound blends rap, R&B, dancehall, and pop, often built around his own singing hooks rather than outside features, giving his catalog a distinctly self-contained feel.
Over the following years he released a run of albums exploring different sonic lanes, from the R&B-leaning Memories Don’t Die to the dancehall-influenced Chixtape series and the alternative rock detour Alone at Prom.
