The Lonely Island

The Lonely Island is an American comedy trio formed by Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, longtime friends who met in high school and college in California. They rose to prominence in the mid-2000s producing digital shorts for Saturday Night Live, beginning with «Lazy Sunday» in 2005, which helped popularize viral comedy videos on the internet before the term went mainstream.

Musically, the group specializes in absurdist, hyper-detailed parody of contemporary hip-hop and pop production, pairing straight-faced comedic writing with genuinely polished beats and hooks. Their breakout singles «I'm On a Boat» (with T-Pain), «Dick in a Box» and «Jizz in My Pants» made them a cultural phenomenon, and they went on to release albums including Incredibad, Turtleneck & Chain and The Wack Album, plus the Netflix visual album The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience.

The trio has collaborated with a wide range of pop and hip-hop stars, including Justin Timberlake on «Motherlover» and «3-Way (The Golden Rule)», Akon on «I Just Had Sex», and Michael Bolton on «Jack Sparrow». Beyond music, they wrote and starred in the film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a satire of the music industry, further cementing their reputation as sharp observers of pop and rap culture.
