About the artist
The Alchemist, born Alan Daniel Maman, is an American record producer, rapper and DJ from Beverly Hills, California, widely regarded as one of hip-hop's most prolific and influential beatmakers. He began his career as a teenager as one half of the duo The Whooliganz alongside actor Scott Caan before shifting focus to production, mentored by Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs. His breakthrough came through work with Mobb Deep and the 2001 Jadakiss hit «We Gonna Make It», which established his reputation for dusty, sample-heavy, cinematic soundscapes.
Over more than two decades, The Alchemist has built an extensive catalog spanning nearly every region of American rap, producing for artists such as Nas, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Prodigy and Havoc. His sound blends soul and jazz samples with gritty, East Coast-leaning textures, even though he identifies with the West Coast. He has released acclaimed collaborative projects with Freddie Gibbs, Curren$y and others, alongside solo compilations like «1st Infantry» and «Chemical Warfare».
Beyond his own catalog, The Alchemist remains a defining voice in underground and mainstream rap production, prized for his consistency and distinctive ear for rare samples. His influence extends across generations of artists who cite his beats as a benchmark for atmospheric, boom-bap-adjacent hip-hop production.
