SpongeBOZZ

SpongeBOZZ is the alter ego of German rapper Sun Diego, who performs in a SpongeBob-themed costume. He rose to prominence through the Juggling the Beats Battles (JBB), the leading German freestyle rap battle competition, winning both the 2013 edition and its King Finale, then successfully defending the title in the 2014 King Finale against Gio, establishing himself as one of the most technically skilled battle rappers in the German scene.

His 2015 debut album Planktonweed Tape debuted at number one on the German charts but was later indexed (restricted) by German youth-protection authorities for its explicit content, a controversy that only heightened the mystique around the masked rapper's identity. Speculation about who was behind the costume swirled for years until SpongeBOZZ confirmed he was in fact Sun Diego with the 2017 double single «SFTB/Apocalyptic Infinity», which included a lengthy diss track aimed at fellow rapper Kollegah.

Later that year he released the double album Started from the Bottom / KrabbenKoke Tape, reaching number two on the charts, and in 2018 published a companion book, Yellow Bar Mitzvah: Die sieben Pforten vom Moloch zum Ruhm. His music blends hardcore trap and gangsta rap with the absurdist, cartoonish persona of the SpongeBOZZ character, a combination that has made him one of the most distinctive figures in German hip-hop.
