Speaker Knockerz, born Derek McAllister Jr., was an American rapper and producer from Columbia, South Carolina, who became one of the most influential figures in the SoundCloud-era Southern trap sound of the early 2010s despite dying at just 19. He began making beats as a young teenager after seeing Soulja Boy produce his own music with Fruity Loops, and quickly turned production into a hustle, selling his first beat to a Miami rapper before saving up to build his home studio. That self-taught, DIY production background shaped his signature sound: minimal, bass-heavy trap beats built around simple, hypnotic melodic loops, which he supplied not only for his own tracks but for artists like Gucci Mane, Young Scooter, and French Montana.

He began releasing his own material as a rapper in 2012, pairing his production with a laid-back, melodic flow that helped define a template later picked up by a generation of SoundCloud and mixtape-era rappers. Songs such as «Lonely», the multi-part «Rico Story» series, and «Dap You Up» showcase his knack for turning simple, repetitive hooks into hypnotic street anthems, blending trap minimalism with pop-leaning melody in a way that felt ahead of its time.

Speaker Knockerz died in March 2014, cutting short a career that had only just begun to reach wider recognition.
