Snoop Lion

Snoop Lion is an alter ego adopted in 2012 by American rapper Snoop Dogg, one of the most iconic figures in West Coast hip-hop since the early 1990s. Following a trip to Jamaica, he announced a conversion to Rastafari and a shift into reggae music, releasing the album «Reincarnated» alongside a documentary of the same name chronicling his time in Jamaica and his spiritual reinvention.

Under the Snoop Lion name, he collaborated with reggae and dancehall artists, working to root the project in Jamaican musical tradition rather than treating it as a novelty crossover. The era produced songs blending laid-back reggae grooves with his signature smooth, melodic delivery, a natural extension of the relaxed cadence that had defined his rap career for two decades.

The Snoop Lion chapter proved relatively brief: by 2015, with the release of his album «Bush», he returned fully to the Snoop Dogg name and his hip-hop roots. Still, the period remains a notable detour in a career defined by genre versatility, spanning gangsta rap, G-funk, pop crossovers, and reggae, and it underscored his long-standing willingness to reinvent his sound and persona.
