Sexion d'Assaut

Sexion d'Assaut is a French hip-hop collective from Paris, formed in the 2000s and signed to the independent label Wati B, run by their manager Dawala. The group's classic line-up features seven members, including Gims (Maître Gims), Black M, Lefa, Maska, Barack Adama, JR O Crom and Doomams. Before consolidating under this name, the members were part of an earlier collective that included the group 3ème Prototype, born from the merger of Assonance and Prototype 3015.

Sexion d'Assaut built a devoted fanbase through free mixtapes such as «La terre du milieu» and «Le renouveau», alongside a steady stream of freestyles and videos, before signing with the major label Believe Music. Their debut project, «L'écrasement de tête», released in 2009, prepared the ground for their first studio album, and the group later moved to Sony Music as their popularity grew across French rap.

Known for anthemic, chant-along hooks, sharp wordplay and a communal, crew-based energy, tracks like «Wati House», «Ma direction» and «Désolé» became staples of French rap in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Several members, notably Gims and Black M, went on to major solo careers, cementing Sexion d'Assaut's legacy as one of the most influential French rap groups of its era.
