ScHoolboy Q

ScHoolboy Q, born Quincy Matthew Hanley in 1986, is an American rapper from South Central Los Angeles and a founding member of the hip-hop group Black Hippy alongside Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. Signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (and later Interscope), he built his reputation on gritty, first-person street narratives shaped by his years affiliated with the 52 Hoover Street Crips before turning fully to music.

After two independent mixtapes, he released his debut album Setbacks in 2011, followed by Habits & Contradictions in 2012, which helped establish him as one of West Coast rap's most distinctive voices. His subsequent major-label albums, including Oxymoron and Blank Face LP, brought him wider commercial success while keeping the raw, drug-and-street-life storytelling that defines his catalog.

His sound favors heavy, often menacing production paired with a versatile flow that shifts between laid-back melodicism and aggressive delivery. Tracks like «Collard Greens», «THat Part» and «Studio» showcase his ability to move between party anthems and darker, more introspective material, cementing his place as a key figure in the Los Angeles rap scene of the 2010s.
