Rae Sremmurd

Rae Sremmurd is an American hip-hop duo from Tupelo, Mississippi, made up of brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi. Their name is «Ear Drummers» spelled backwards, a nod to EarDrummers Entertainment, the label of producer Mike WiLL Made-It, who discovered and shaped much of their early sound. They broke through in 2014 with the raucous, party-starting single «No Flex Zone», quickly followed by the even bigger hit «No Type», establishing them as a defining act of the mid-2010s hip-hop scene.

Their sound blends hyperactive ad-libs, sing-song hooks, and turnt-up energy with Swae Lee's melodic sensibility contrasting Slim Jxmmi's harder-edged delivery, a dynamic that became their signature. Their debut album «SremmLife» and its follow-up «SremmLife 2» expanded on this formula, and the duo achieved a career-defining moment with «Black Beatles», which topped the Billboard Hot 100 after going viral alongside the Mannequin Challenge trend.

Beyond their group output, Swae Lee became a sought-after collaborator and melodic hook writer for other artists, further cementing Rae Sremmurd's influence on the sound of contemporary trap and pop-rap. The duo helped popularize a looser, more melodic, ad-lib-driven approach that shaped a generation of hip-hop artists that followed.
