O.S.T.R.

O.S.T.R. (real name Adam Ostrowski) is one of the most respected figures in Polish hip-hop, active since the mid-1990s. He began experimenting with rap as a teenager in 1993, but his musical roots go deeper — he is a classically trained violinist and graduate of the Music Academy in Łódź, a background that gave his later work an unusually strong sense of composition and melody. He first recorded with the group BDC, which evolved into LWC before he moved on to a solo career.

His 2001 debut album «Masz to jak w banku», released through Asfalt Records, launched a partnership with the label that lasted over a decade and produced fifteen albums, both solo and collaborative. O.S.T.R.'s music spans rap, pop and rock influences, often built around live instrumentation, and his lyrics range from introspective and socially conscious themes to sharp battle rap. Since 2003 he has performed and recorded extensively with DJ Haem, and from 2007 onward frequently with a live band, blending hip-hop with a concert-band energy rarely seen in the genre.

O.S.T.R. is widely regarded as one of Poland's greatest freestyle rappers, known for spontaneous, improvised performances rather than fixed setlists. Tracks like «Spowiedź», «Diagnoza» and «Miami» showcase his range, while his participation in the viral «#Hot16Challenge» during the pandemic reintroduced him to a new generation of listeners. His influence on Polish hip-hop's lyrical and musical standards is considered foundational.
