Obie Trice

Obie Trice (born Obie Trice III on November 14, 1977, in Detroit, Michigan) is an American rapper best known for his years signed to Eminem's Shady Records. Raised in Detroit by his mother alongside three brothers, he began rapping at age eleven and cut his teeth in the city's battle-rap scene, where he was introduced to Eminem through D12 member Bizarre and impressed him with an impromptu freestyle in a parking lot.

He originally performed as Obie 1 before adopting his real name as his stage name at the suggestion of the late Proof. As part of the Shady Records roster, Trice became known for his gritty, storytelling-driven street narratives and sharp, conversational flow, releasing several studio albums during his time with the label before departing in 2008. Songs such as «Rap Name», «Snitch» and «Richard» reflect the hard-edged, autobiographical style that defined his output.

After leaving Shady Records, Trice founded his own independent label, Black Market Entertainment, in 2010 and continued releasing music independently, including further studio albums and mixtapes, most recently The Fifth in 2019. He remains a respected figure from the early-2000s Detroit hip hop scene associated with the Eminem/D12/Shady camp.
