Night Lovell

Night Lovell, born Shermar Paul, is a rapper and producer from Ottawa, Canada, who emerged from the underground SoundCloud scene in the mid-2010s. He first drew wide attention when his track «Dark Light» went viral, establishing the moody, bass-heavy aesthetic that would define his sound. His stage name combines his father's middle name, Lovell, with Night, reflecting his habit of recording late at night, a time he has described as more vulnerable and personally revealing.

His music sits at the intersection of rap and dark electronic production, built around deep, laconic vocals, minor-key melodies and atmospheric, bass-heavy beats that align him with the broader cloud-rap and alternative hip-hop movements of the era. He released his debut album Concept Vague in December 2014, followed by Red Teenage Melody in June 2016, both of which helped solidify his cult following outside the mainstream.

Night Lovell continued to develop his brooding, introspective style with the 2019 album GOODNIGHT LOVELL, alongside tracks like «JOAN OF ARC» and «Contraband». Early in his career he also produced under the alias KLNV, short for Killanov, reflecting his hands-on role in shaping his own dark, minimalist sound.
