N.E.R.D.

N.E.R.D. (an acronym for No-one Ever Really Dies) is an American hip-hop and rock band formed in the late 1990s by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, the production duo known as The Neptunes, together with their high school friend Shay Haley. Conceived as a side project outside their hit-making production work, the group let its members step out from behind the boards and perform as artists in their own right.

N.E.R.D.'s sound blends hip-hop, funk, alternative rock and electronic elements into a genre-defying mix, standing apart from the polished pop and R&B productions The Neptunes were famous for. Their debut album «In Search Of...» was reworked with a live funk-rock backing band before its wider release, giving the project a rawer, more organic edge. Later releases leaned further into rock and electronic textures, with tracks like «Lapdance», «Everyone Nose» and «Lemon» (featuring Rihanna) showing the group's range across eras.

Despite reports of a split around 2005, Pharrell has maintained the band never truly broke up, and N.E.R.D. has continued to release music intermittently, cementing its place as one of the more experimental projects to emerge from the Neptunes' orbit.
