Naughty By Nature

Naughty by Nature is a hip hop trio from East Orange, New Jersey, consisting of rappers Treach and Vin Rock alongside producer DJ Kay Gee, who departed the group in 2000 amid financial issues within their label. Emerging in the early 1990s, the trio quickly became one of the defining acts of East Coast rap's golden era, pairing Treach's rapid-fire, technically dense delivery with anthemic, party-ready hooks.

Their breakout single «O.P.P.» turned a playground-chant hook into one of the biggest crossover rap hits of its time, while «Hip Hop Hooray» became an era-defining anthem and a staple of hip hop culture at large. Both tracks earned Grammy nominations, cementing the group's reputation for combining street credibility with mainstream accessibility. Later singles like «Feel Me Flow» and «Everything's Gonna Be Alright (Ghetto Bastard)» showed a broader range, moving between celebratory party rap and more reflective, socially aware material.

Their album «Poverty's Paradise» won them a Grammy, a rare feat for the group's era and further evidence of their standing within hip hop. Naughty by Nature's blend of sharp lyricism, group chemistry, and hook-driven songwriting made them influential well beyond New Jersey, helping to shape the sound of commercially successful East Coast hip hop through the 1990s.
