Mystikal, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana, who emerged in the mid-1990s as one of the most distinctive vocal stylists in Southern hip-hop. His delivery — a raspy, percussive shout drawing comparisons to soul screamers like James Brown and Little Richard — set him apart from the more laid-back flows common in rap at the time, blending funk and swing sensibilities with aggressive, rapid-fire cadences.

He rose to national prominence through his association with No Limit Records and later Jive Records, releasing a string of albums that showcased his high-energy performance style. His biggest crossover hit, «Shake Ya Ass», became a club staple and cemented his reputation for infectious, party-driven tracks built on funk-inflected production.

Mystikal also built a strong reputation through guest appearances, most notably his scene-stealing verse on Ludacris’s «Move Bitch» and his feature on Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz’s «I Don’t Give a Fuck» alongside Krayzie Bone. His work earned him Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Male Rap Solo Performance in 2003, affirming his standing as one of the era’s most technically distinctive rappers.
