Midland

Midland is an American country trio formed by singer Mark Wystrach, guitarist Jess Carson, and bassist Cameron Duddy. The band members first connected in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, before relocating to Dripping Springs, Texas, where they now call home. Their name pays tribute to a Dwight Yoakam song, signaling the retro-leaning, honky-tonk aesthetic that would define their sound.

Midland built their reputation on a warm, harmony-driven style that draws heavily from 1970s California country-rock, evoking acts like the Eagles while staying rooted in classic Nashville songwriting. After tracking early material at Sonic Ranch studios in El Paso, Texas, they signed with a major Nashville label and broke through with their debut single «Drinkin' Problem», a song that climbed the US country charts and topped the charts in Canada.

Since then the trio has continued to release music built around vintage instrumentation, pedal steel, and tightly woven vocal harmonies, with songs like «Burn Out» and «Fourteen Gears» reinforcing their image as modern torchbearers of a classic country sound. Their look and sound have made them one of the more distinctive acts in mainstream country over the past decade.
